Welcome to the Albany Pine Bush Preserve Education Program

We offer a variety of educational opportunities for school groups, special interests, families, and individuals. Take a look at the options below and begin, or continue, your exploration of the Albany Pine Bush.

School and special interest groups:

Check out our school program page and choose a program that you think would be best for your school or group. All of our programs are lead by trained staff and volunteers, and they meet several NYS Learning Standards. Book your program today!

Discovery Center exploration:

The Discovery Center is a truly amazing place to explore many aspects of the Albany Pine Bush Preserve. In addition to our friendly and knowledgeable receptionists, you will find well-trained Docents in the center to answer your questions and guide you through your exploration of the Pine Bush.

Public programs:

Investigate the details of the Pine Bush on one of our public programs. All programs are lead by staff, volunteers, or special guest experts. These programs range from a talk on native plant landscaping, to an insect walk, to a snow shoe exploration and much more. Click here see our program listing and to sign up!

Preschool Programs

Nature exploration for the very young is now offered at the new Albany Pine Bush Discovery Center! Preschoolers age 2-4 are invited to attend our seasonal preschool program series. Each program will explore a part of the Pine Bush that is unique to the season. Every program will incorporate a song or story, a hands-on exploration of the topic, and a craft project. This program will be offered in six week blocks, four times a year.  Program length: 45 minutes.

First Friday Hikes:

Take a break from your work day to join us on the first Friday of every month for a 45 minute walk through the Preserve. Each Friday we will discuss a new aspect of the Pine Bush. Click here to see the program topics and where to meet.

Volunteer:

Be a Volunteer Docent in the Discovery Center or a Volunteer Educator leading the public and school groups in the Preserve. High school students can be Junior Docents. Click here for more information about volunteer opportunities.
