A Magical Evening

Celebration Marked by Generosity & Pine Bush History

Friends members and guests gathered October 27 for a special evening of activities at the Discovery Center to celebrate 10 years since the founding of the Friends of the Pine Bush Community, Inc.
“The night was FANTASTIC!,”said Friends board member Sue Cypert, who greeted arrivals. “Everyone was warm and positive and remarked how glad they were to be there. They came back to the membership table for forms to recruit their friends to become members … that’s a very positive sign!”

Nearly 50 attendees celebrated the Friends’ work with Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission staff in furthering conservation and education within the Albany Pine Bush Preserve. Guests socialized as they toured the Discovery Center exhibits and enjoyed snacks, cider, baked treats, and anniversary cake from Yonder Farms.
“It was a magical evening – everyone’s smile and outgoing friendliness contributed to a very memorable event,” said Friends board member Karen Glesmann as she sold tickets for a raffle auction. Items for the fundraiser auction were contributed by Friends members and Discovery Center staff.

The generosity of attendees during the evening raised funds from the raffle auction, donations and new memberships. All proceeds were added to the 2015 Friends Membership & Giving Match Challenge for an updated amount of $4,092 as of 10/27/15.

“Jim was not able to join us tonight. We express great thanks to him for his generosity in supporting the Friends with his Match Challenge,” said Darwin. “We will continue to raise funds to reach our $5,000 goal before the end of the year. I ask everyone to help us meet the challenge by inviting friends to become members or make contributions. Memberships make great birthday and holiday gifts.” check presentation crop2

The celebration was especially marked by generosity when a check to the Friends from Mr. Suozzo for $3,000 as a partial match amount was announced by Darwin Roosa, president of the board. To audience applause, Darwin turned over the check to Robin Cabanos, acting treasurer.

Additionally, information was available about fun and engaging volunteer opportunities for members of the Friends. Members are needed to help staff community outreach tables throughout the Capital District and a variety of special events during the year, such as family-fun days, silent auctions, photo exhibits, annual Lupine Fest and special donor activities.
