When we walk the trails of the Albany Pine Bush Preserve and take notice of the diversity of life found here in a northeastern interior pine barrens we are witness to life in the present day. Life in the Pine Bush is the result of countless generations ,derived from the first pre-biotic environment found on the very early Earth, shortly after its formation.

In his presentation, Dr. George Shaw, Professor Emeritus Union College, will offer a view of that early Earth history and give fascinating insight into the special conditions and long-term generation that was necessary for life to evolve, and by extension try to answer the question "Could life exist elsewhere in the universe?"

Following Dr. Shaw’s talk, members of the Helderberg Earth and Sky Observatory will have telescopes set up for public viewing of select celestial objects (weather-permitting).
