Pitch Pine-Scrub Oak Thicket

A pitch pine-scrub oak thicket resembles a pitch pine-scrub oak barrens in plant species richness, but has a much higher density of scrub oak and a lower density of grasses. In addition, some portions of this community may have higher densities of huckleberry. A pitch pine-scrub oak thicket results when a pitch pine-scrub oak barrens is burned less frequently than is required to maintain grassy openings.
