For countless generations, local Native people relied on the once extensive inland pine barrens known today as the Pine Bush for food, medicines, and other purposes. Similar fire-dependent ecosystems could once be found throughout the Hudson Valley, maintained by the fires that Native hunters used to improve their hunting grounds. Join ethnoecologist Justin Wexler of Wild Hudson Valley for a presentation at the Albany Pine Bush Preserve to imagine what this nearly-vanished world was like five centuries ago.
This lecture is being offered in a hybrid format.
